I have moved the position of the masthead, and I think it looks better here, it also fits with the conventions of a college magazine cover. The limitation of doing this however, is that it doesn't stand out as much as it used to, my target audience could also find it hard to understand as it is super-imposed on top of the college campus. I will experiment with different ideas and may fade the background so it draws the readers attention, or I may decide to put a thick blakc line around the outside of the lettering.
